Situation in Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Italy

Discrimination that lasts for a very long time in our societies, but nobody is speaking about it in public, made us write this blog and explain to our readers what is really happening  regarding the issue of human rights of minorities. 

Everybody in its daily life can witness discrimination of Romanies, but nobody is paying any attention because of their own concerns. In countries like Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Italy where the average paycheck is not enough to cover the basic needs, everybody keeps quiet about human rights of community that lives in the margin of its own society. Though their rights are guarantied by the Constitution, real situation is very alarming.

The Romanies are, due to discrimination, deprived of health insurance, education, as well as socio-economic development conditions. For instance, if they happen to be given education, the Romanies are discriminated when looking for a job, since the employer always gives the advantage to the non-Romanies.

The only people who are doing something in order to solve the problem of the marginalized groups are NGOs and some state institutions which have recently been established and which have neither influence nor authority, nor even experience. They have not started operating to a sufficient level either in the government or in the society.

Their activities mostly include informing the public about the cases of discrimination and appeals to the state institutions to react in some particular cases. They do not have the strategy for a long-term solution for the discrimination due to the lack of the political will.

In our countries, those who have the power to change something are politicians, because all the NGOs and organizations depend on their political will.

Political opportunism is the main obstacle to the problem solving. By pleading for the minority rights and ignoring the problems that the minorities encounter, they meet the inert expectations of the minority because they are aware of the fact that they would lose the favor of the majority of the body of electors by becoming active in this field.

They ignore the problem. The actions of the young institutions that deal with the problem of discrimination are reduced to declaring intercession and statements which have not been supported by any concrete action, and more often than not the authors of these declarations distance themselves from them. Apart from the cry of the threatened groups, the examples of solidarity, in which the members of the majority support the legitimate requests of the minority, are rare. The members of the threatened groups seldom decide to talk publicly about their problem because they fear the repression and revenge by the environment they live in. The official governmental institutions pay attention to the problem only under the supervision of the European institutions and international forums that have appropriate pressure mechanisms. The system stimulates political irresponsibility so that the politicians and civil servants work for their short-term benefit instead of working

Often reminded of immorality that comes as large drops of rain on the streets that resembles a stream in our society are struggling to be as noiseless as possible, so as not to awaken those who are already awake and struggling against the darkness and corrosion it creates venality. It includes the illegal use of administrative and social status and power to deny the rules of fair play in order to gain in their favor.

  A crush of young people who seek employment, a modest life, love and family, face reality - unemployment, inability to realize themselves, their ideals are crumbling, their persistence has less the same as the ambition and effort that they invest less, forgot where they are and where they want and where they can be. Young people fall asleep in a dream fantasies composed of burying all the bad memories that lie at the heart desires and generated heaps created indifference as morning star that follows the dynamic life, feeling again  fueled the spirit to work.
